E&E contributions to COVID research

As we reach the one-year anniversary of the U.S., and the University of Chicago, shutting down in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we recognize Ecology & Evolution faculty and students who have been on the front lines of research, communication and outreach:

  • Over autumn quarter, Sarah Cobey discussed school reopenings on "All In with Chris Hayes," and she was quoted in the New York Times (9/9/20) commenting on breakdowns in quarantine protocols at some colleges.
  • PhD candidate Rahul Subramanian was first author on a study published Feb. 10 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciencesthat found asymptomatic cases accounted for at least 80% of COVID-19 cases during last spring's outbreak in New York City.
  • UChicago News cited Luis Bettancourt discussing current interdisciplinary research demonstrating the need for more aggressive counter-measures in urban areas.
