We wish to extend hearty congratulations to E&E doctoral candidate Arvind Pillai, on the publication of Origin of complexity in haemoglobin evolution in the journal Nature this past May.
This paper represents the culmination of a significant portion of Arvind's doctoral research, and his first-author status is well deserved. Arvind and his collaborators "establish that evolution can produce new complex molecular structures and functions via simple genetic mechanisms that recruit existing biophysical features into higher-level architectures."
